Can I get pregnant on my menstrual cycle?

If you've only had intercourse while menstruating, you might think that there's no way pregnancy could result. It is important to know, however, that some women can get pregnant while menstruating. Whether you are one of those women depends on how your unique menstrual cycle works.
The average woman has a 28-day menstrual cycle and ovulates 14 days after she ends her period. Because sperm can live for up to five days and eggs remain viable for about two days, the average woman can usually get pregnant if she has intercourse sometime between day 10 and day 17 of her cycle. This is because she is fertile for a few days mid-cycle, but is not fertile for the rest of her cycle.
The important phrase, however, is "average woman." You may have an irregular menstruation cycle. You may not ovulate on day 14 but instead on day 10 or day 20. You also may release an egg from one ovary on day 14, but may also release an egg from the other ovary on day 24, making it possible for you to conceive while you are menstruating. The fact that your uterus is shedding the lining may make it more difficult for the fertilized egg to implant, but it is not impossible for the implanting to happen. It’s just less likely.

How can you tell if you have an irregular menstrual cycle or ovulation cycle? You probably will never know unless you either get pregnant, realizing that the only time you had intercourse that month was during your period, or if you have fertility issues and go to a doctor, who will perform tests to determine when you ovulate. If you have very short cycles, you are more likely to be able to conceive while you have your period.

Self Breast Exam Techniques for Women

In a time when cancer prevention is more important than ever before, women all over the world are doing everything they can to protect their health. Most gynecologists and the American Cancer Association recommend women do monthly self breast exams beginning at the age of 20, throughout the rest of their life.

Doctors suggest these exams because they say when women regularly examine the area, they become more aware of what’s normal and what’s new. Any changes (masses, lumps, appearance) are often easily detected by women who do monthly self breast exams. Detecting these changes is important, as changes can be early signs of cancer. It’s important to say, most of the time changes don’t necessarily mean you have cancer. But, all changes should be reported promptly to your doctor.

When should you perform self breast exams?
It’s a good idea to perform your self breast exams at the same time each month. Some women go through the routine the week after their period, when their breast area is not swollen or tender. Those who no longer have periods can set a date, such as the 1st of the month and do the examination every month on that particular date.

How to do a self breast check:
Step 1:
Stand in front of a mirror (shirtless/braless) with your arms at your sides. Look at your chest to see if any changes should be noted. Then, stand with your hands on your hips and look for changes. Lastly, raise your arms and flex your chest muscles, looking for changes.

Step 2: Check out the appearance of your breasts, looking for changes in contour, swelling, dimpling of the skin and the nipple. Most women don’t have “matching breasts” and will notice changes from one to the other. But, you will know what’s normal for you and what’s not.

Step 3: Use the pads of your fingertips to firmly (no pain should occur) on your breast area. Check your entire breast and armpit. You can use a circular motion, an up-and-down motion or a wedge pattern motion. Whatever motion you choose, be sure to use the same one each month on both breasts. Use whichever one is easiest for you to remember.

Step 4: Lay down and start with the right breast. Put a pillow under your right shoulder and place your right hand under your head. Do the same fingers motion and procedure on the breast again, which you did standing up. Repeat for the left breast, checking all tissue during the screening.

Step 5: In a gentle way, squeeze each nipple and report any discharge which may occur immediately to your doctor.
It’s important to see your doctor for exams each year and follow their recommendations on getting a mammogram to check the breast area and lymph node areas. Remember, even if you have a lump diagnosis, it’s likely it’s benign and rarely will turn out malignant.

Mayonnaise is, however, a very tricky condiment with which to condition, which is why many people report horror stories after they attempt a mayonnaise deep condition. The trick to working with mayonnaise is to completely rinse out the product after you have used it – this is where those failed attempts go wrong. If you do rinse it all out, you will be left with silky hair; if you do not, your hair will look greasy and limp.

Apply a thin coat of mayonnaise to dry hair, being sure to work the condiment into your scalp. Leave the mayonnaise on your head for 20 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Shampoo your hair after you rinse – this will further help wash that product out of your hair and down the drain.

Things You Must Have

A good sunscreen should be in your purse. No amount of cosmetics can take the place of protecting your skin from harmful UV rays from the sun. Buy a good moisturizer or foundation that has a sunscreen in it, and you have a double-duty product that will keep your skin soft, smooth and better protected from sun damage. Purchase a travel-sized product to save space.
You need a good foundation makeup. Whether it’s for touch-ups at the office or a fresh face for an evening out, a good foundation will even out your skin tone and minimize the appearance of any visible pores. Foundation really is indispensible for a polished look and works wonders to hide any flaws or imperfections that are no one’s business but your own.

Home Manicure Tips: How to Polish, File, and Buff Nails Like a Professional Nail Salon

Use Salon Products and Tools

Before Filing or Buffing…..

To begin, grab your nail buffer and file your nails as you normally would (rounded, square or oval). With the roughest side of the buffer, start to buff your nails. Use a gently side-to-side motion when doing this. The main purpose of this phase is to smooth out any major ridges your nails may have. Next, use the next roughest side of your buffer and repeat the process. This will further work any ridges out of your nail area. To finish the buffing phase, utilize the smoothest part of the buffer to polish your nails until they shine.
Be sure not to be too rough when you are using the first few sides of the buffer. These are meant to only be used gently on the nails. Being too aggressive can lead to a split or chip in the nail, which is almost always difficult to repair properly.

Tips for Professional Salon Results
After you’ve successfully buffed your nails, consider taking your homemade manicure to the next level. Grab your favorite lotion (with or without sun block) and a pair of clean cotton gloves (socks will work if you don’t have gloves). "What Makes Me A Beauty Expert?"

I didn't choose to be a Beauty Expert. It chose me. I still don't know why it chose me, lately I've felt its part of my purpose and I feel so very blessed for it and this powerful thing called destiny.
I have lived my whole life seeking perfection. I wanted to look good but at the same time, I never quite understood how to accept myself.

I went to Beauty College to be an Aesthetician after high school in hopes of learning the secrets to preserve my youth. I studied the Aesthetician course for skin care. My studies included basic skin care with the understanding of how ingredients in products affect the skin, skin waxing and make-up application.

I learned how to apply foundation, eyeliner, eyelashes, and contour the eyes with shadow and the cheeks with blush, using the appropriate cosmetic utensils. I lived make-up and all things skin. I guess I was a little obsessed back then.

Specialty treatments at the time were Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Glycolic Acid and Enzyme Peels. One of the perks of going to Cosmetology School was being able to sample hundreds of skin care products. All the high end products like Murad, MD Formulation, Yonka, Aveda, Dermalogica were in my beauty bag. I gained a remarkable amount of knowledge about ingredients. It only fueled my fire even more to take care of my skin.

Those skills were a wonderful prerequisite for a career in entertainment. As a Hollywood actress and body double I had to face my insecurities. I had no choice. Every day I had to look in the mirror because that's how I made a living.

Playing dress up every week with the perfect hair, make up and wardrobe didn't make for good therapy. When the lights and cameras were rolling it was definitely make believe. After the director yelled cut, I would revert back to feeling too thin or too fat. Never feeling beautiful enough... You would think after such success I could accept myself.

Being a body double is much like being a shadow. I learned so much from my shadow. Everyone that I thought was perfect had their own challenges and struggles. We all were so focused on external beauty that we forgot the foundation...inner beauty.

Then, around two years ago, I was enlightened by the works of scientist Dr. Alexander Schauss and Dr. Nicholas Perricone. It enabled me to delve into the foundation one must build to be truly beautiful...which starts within.

The beauty of your cells and a beautiful mindset are far more beneficial than any cosmetics or a fancy wardrobe.

Now don't get me wrong. It's great to have style and a healthy body image but one should not be so obsessed that we forget the underlying significance. I truly feel that we must work the inside just as much as the outside.

So I ask, how beautiful are you? Are you just as beautiful from the inside as the outside?

Unless you're in a hurry to see 30, 40 or 50 here are 5 simple steps you can start today so you look better & feel better.

1. Make the mirror your friend, do you say things like, "If I didn't look like this..., then I would be perfect", or "I wish there were no such things as mirrors so I wouldn't have to see myself." Now is the time to embrace who you are & make the most of what you have. Imagine spending your time highlighting them. If you have great hair-let it shine. If you have great teeth smile like there's no tomorrow. If certain clothes flatter your figure, walk with confidence in your power. I find that when we focus on our likes our dislikes diminish.

2. Make your feast fashionable everyday by consuming a diet rich in antioxidants to slow down the aging process & fight off disease. The Center of Disease Control suggests eating 5-9 servings of fruits/vegetables a day for optimal health. As far as exercise is concerned find a routine that you are comfortable doing so it becomes consistent. Practice makes permanent that's what it's about; developing a system you can follow.

3. Make up your mind by brushing away the negative thoughts & beliefs about yourself (I'm not beautiful, I don't like this, I don't like that...) your thoughts, words & actions should align at all times. You can make one small shift in your subconscious to synergistically blend them together. Be the You, You always wanted to be & live the life you love!

4. Make the most of your appearance. Communication starts way before you open your mouth. In fact 55% of your communication skills are based on your appearance. Appearance does matter. So if you are feeling I'm not worth it or I don't have the time. You could very well be missing out on hundreds or thousands of dollars because of your appearance or lack there of. Dress how you want be who you are. It's time to stop conforming to images we see on TV & in magazines. Your appearance, your image, your life...should be you-stand in your authenticity. Pretending to be something you are not & worrying about what other people think can be exhausting.

5. Make it funny. As serious as you need to be. Good old fashion laughter is good for your health. Not only is it good for your heart. It is also a stress reducer. Remember stress causes Free Radicals which slow down the aging process. Go ahead laugh out loud you will feel AMAZING!
